The weekend of Monza, finished with the victory of Max Verstappen, it was undoubtedly a weekend full of surprises, penalty and events that changed the fate of the race.
Albon with appendicitis, De Vries in his place
A surprise event it was without a doubt the replacement at Williams of Alexander Albon with Nyck De Vries. The motivation is very simple: on Saturday, before FP3, Albon suffered severe appendicitis which forced him to have to have surgery, thus skipping the weekend in Italy. At the sYour place has been calledor Nyck De Vries who finished ninth in the race.
Post-operative problems
However, it was not an easy operation for the Thai, who was transported, at the end of the operation, in intensive care for respiratory failure. However, the situation seems, and fortunately, to have returned. We report on this il press release of Grove team.
“Following Alex Albon's diagnosis of appendicitis on the morning of Saturday 10 September, the rider was admitted to the San Gerardo hospital for treatment. He underwent successful laparoscopic surgery at lunchtime on Saturday. After the surgery, Alex experienced unexpected post-op anesthetic complications leading to respiratory failure, a known but uncommon complication. He was reintubated and transferred to intensive care for support. He made excellent progress overnight and was taken off mechanical ventilation yesterday morning. He has now been transferred to a general ward and is expected to go home tomorrow. There were no other complications."
Head to Singapore
The situation has therefore returned with Albon already ready to focus for the Singapore Grand Prix, scheduled for the weekend from 30 to 2 September.
“Alex is focusing on recovering and preparing for the Singapore Grand Prix later this month. He would like to thank the excellent care and support he has received, including from the nursing, anesthesiology and intensive care team of the San Gerardo Hospital – ASST Monza, the FIA medical team, his Personal Trainer Patrick Harding, the Williams Racing team and Dr. Luke Bennett of HINTSA Performance”.
