In today's day the Williams communicated that Nicholas Latifi he will leave the team at the end of the season. An announcement that didn't surprise the paddock much, which is now wondering who will replace the Canadian in 2023.
The disappointing season
No doubt Nicholas Latifi didn't convince with his performances. In fact, the drivers' standings are clear: zero points in the standings and last place. The icing on the cake was undoubtedly the excellent performance of the substitute Nyck de vries. The Dutch replaced Alexander Albon in the Italian Grand Prix and finished ninth, immediately earning his first two points as an F1 driver.
Greetings from Latifi
It was certainly not an easy season for Latifi. However, the Canadian wanted to say goodbye to the team with a touching message on social media.
"I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone at Williams Racing – everyone who works at the factory and everyone I work with on the track – for the last three years we have spent together. My F1 debut was postponed due to the pandemic, but in the end we left for Austria and, even if we didn't get the results we hoped for together, it was still a fantastic journey. Getting my first points in Hungary last year was a moment I will never forget and I will move on to the next chapter of my career with special memories of my time with this glorious team. I know none of us will stop working until the end of the season".
Williams, names for replacement
The question everyone is asking now is: who will take Latifi's place? At the Williams i names were manyi but as the list is starting to get shorter and shorter. Initially, in June, the Grove team he was very close to Oscar Piastres, finally went into McLaren. Look at him then is tacked on Nyck De Vries who, after the race at Monza, would be the perfect companion for Alexander Albon. The problem is that by now the Formula E champion has already found an agreement with another stable, or the AlphaTauri.
The favorite
With Piastri and De Vries now gone, Antonio Giovinazzi is still on the list for Williams. However, the Italian rider hesitates, waiting to understand what Haas's choice will be. In fact, the American team is grappling with the future of Schumacher, and Giovinazzi is in the ballot with Nico Hulkenberg. Last name, but which seems to be the favorite today, is that of Logan Sargeant. The 2-year-old American is a member of the Williams Academy and currently races in FXNUMX. It is not superlicensed but he would get it if he were to finish within fifth place in the standings at the end of the year. These will be decisive days in the Williams house to understand who, in the end, will occupy the seat vacated by Nicholas Latifi.
