Sebastian Vettel decided to say goodbye to racing just a year ago. The German's last lap at Abu Dhabi 2022 was one of the most exciting events for the fans who have always hoped for a change of heart, for a return, also in other categories such as Formula E. On the other hand, it wouldn't be the first time for an F1 driver. Just think of the most recent case, that of Fernando Alonso, who returned to F1 after two years of absence and several competitions including endurance, Dakar Rally and Indycar. But if the Asturian continued to frequent the track during the break, Vettel has a different plan in mind.
Goodbye at the wrong time?
In recent years Vettel has stood out, at times generating a wave of negative comments and reproaches, for his great interest in environmental and social issues. His environmental battles have often ended up in the media, more than his results on the track. Unfortunately disappointing results, given that theAston Martin in the two years of Sebastian's employment it was decidedly less competitive and less reliable than it is now. The timing for the farewell was certainly not the best. Since the start of the season, there have been 6 podiums for Fernando Alonso, who replaced Vettel at the start of the season. He was asked if there was some regret in looking at these results. But the German has always declared that he has no regrets and that he enjoys many family moments that he couldn't enjoy before, while working.
Formula E hypothesis
There is always great attention towards Vettel and this is why one piece of news has aroused particular interest. Recently there have been rumors that Vettel could return to the track. Not in F1 but aboard a Formula E, an all-electric category that just concluded its ninth season. The news was also relaunched by Thomas Biermaier, head of the ABT Cupra team. Biermaier had declared that the team's next driver would be a "former pilot who he cares a lot about the environment and does a lot of work on sustainability.” The clues led everyone to think that it was indeed Sebastian. The provocation also came from the other driver of the ABT team, Nico Muller who stated: "I know a former German Formula 1 champion who moved to Switzerland a while ago. I would recommend him to try it, it's fun”.

Vettel denies it all
As tempting as the invitation may seem, it wasn't enough to convince Sebastian Vettel to return to the track. The Formula E hypothesis will in fact remain a suggestion from fans, as will a return to racing. In fact, the Spanish edition of Motorsport.com reports the words of Vettel who clearly denied the rumors that have circulated in recent days: "I am not in talks to race in Formula E with ABT Cupra or any other team – declared Vettel. Words have been put in my mouth and I would like to make it clear that I am not currently considering a return to motorsport.".
It's difficult to say if or when he will return to racing. There are those who returned after years, and those who continued their lives on other projects. One thing is certain though, if it happens we will find out directly from him. Now that he has also become somewhat familiar with social media.
