The umpteenth penalty (of only five positions) but the confidence to be clearly the best on race pace. With 10 victories under his belt this year, Max Verstappen will be looking for the eleventh and fifth in a row this Sunday in front of the Ferrari fans.
It was a rather unusual Friday for the Dutchman, considering that the race pace was very positive, while on the flying lap Ferrari seems to have something more. But, considering the penalty, the world champion preferred to focus his attention on Sunday's race, in which he will be called to comeback, like in Spa. it is expected. The slipstream at Monza is a good component but, after what happened in France and at Spa, it seems unlikely that Perez will be able to help his teammate. We'll see, for this reason the qualifying session scheduled for tomorrow at 16.00 will be unmissable, considering that the only drivers, from the top teams, not to serve penalties will be Charles Leclerc and George Russell.
Verstappen's words
The reigning world champion also referred to Spa, a track on which he triumphed two weeks ago with an archive comeback. “There are still some things we can improve on but the long runs look good. Monza is not Spa-Francorchamps, but if we go half as far as we used to go there, we have a good chance".
“Ferrari don't worry me”
Verstappen then went on to state: “I think the car went very well today, we tried different solutions between the two sessions. We have dedicated more time in the race simulation because we have a five-place grid penalty, and everything went well. The Ferraris seem competitive, it doesn't worry me, but there are still some details to fix”.
