Also on Friday of free practice in Baku arises in the archives. In the first session the best time was signed by Sergio Perez, while Leclerc he replied with the best performance in FP2. Once again it is confirmed: these two teams will fight for victory.
Word to Verstappen
He did not achieve the best performance in either of the two tests Max Verstappen. The Dutch driver finished in third place in both the first and second sessions. The world champion though is there, fighting with the Ferrari and with the other Red Bull, that of the teammate, for the victory.
"I was a bit unlucky both in FP1 and FP2 – admitted Verstappen – because every time I mounted the softs they displayed the yellow flags and I had to lift my foot. Overall though, the car runs quite well. It seems that Ferrari is very fast again on one lap, while on long runs we are on the same level. Furthermore, for once, it seems that on a street circuit we can get the tires to work beyond a single lap. Every time you try to push in the second lap you've already lost performance".
“Good day overall”
A Red Bull that has preferred to focus so much on the flying lap. In fact, Verstappen only tested his race pace in the final stages, going through only two laps. The Dutch has explained thus his choice and that of the team:
“Overall it didn't go badly, we just need to fine-tune a few things. The mechanics tried to solve the problem with the rear wing at the end of FP1 and in Free Practice 2 I didn't feel anything. I only managed to do three laps of long runs, but I don't think that matters much. Obviously we don't know the whole process of tire decay, but I think we have enough information to understand in which direction we want to go with the tyres”.
