New season, new challenges and entertainment. What adjective do you use to describe this Moto GP season?
"Unpredictable. The motivation is simple: there are always many twists and turns. There are continuous characters that emerge and then disappear; without forgetting that the values of the bikes we knew long ago have completely reversed... so, when you think that certain tracks were friends with some bikes, this year is no longer the case. It's really very difficult to be able to predict and make predictions, that's why I tell you: unpredictable o unpredictable".
Everyone talks about the match between Bagnaia and Quartararo, but Espargaro is there too. Tell me a feature of the three that you like and who do you see as favorite?
"Quartararo is the talent. It's the rider who manages to get the bike going which, compared to the others, has changed less by staying a little further back, but I'll put that in quotation marks. It wouldn't be fair to say this because Yamaha are world champions and still lead the standings. Let's just say that in the past it was famous for its ease of handling by everyone, but now it is less decipherable and it is here that Quartararo's talent stands out. which manages to emphasize all the positive characteristics of the bike”.
"For bagnaia instead I say… the precision. He is so meticulous that, although there have been some mistakes, he has managed to get back up. He ate 47 points in 3 races at Quartararo because he never gave up and was able to find the feeling with the Ducati again. On Asparagus Instead I tell you… the surprise. He's a very experienced rider and he arrived at the moment you don't expect because, usually, a rider emerges first. Instead he was able to take advantage of Aprilia's super work done in house to shine and fight for the title. Among the three, also considering the last few races, I see Pecco as the favorite even if, as I told you before, this season is really unpredictable so never say never”.
Ducati's choice
Last week the duel at Ducati between Bastianini and Martin ended. Bastianini was chosen: what do you think?
“There was actually a bit of a suspense. I was partly surprised: at the beginning I expected it to be Bastianini, but during the season nobody ruled out the arrival of Martin. It wasn't an easy decision. The strength of the two is undeniable: Martin will undoubtedly go a long way being an incredible talent, but it is true that the numbers tell that Bastianini won 3 races this year. I think in the end we are talking about wonderful news, both for Enea and for Ducati".
So how do you see the Bagnaia-Bastianini duo for next year?
“Obviously seeing an all-Italian team on Ducati is really beautiful. I guess you win like that it would be even more exciting. Coming instead to the couple… I tell you: Bagnaia got along very well with Miller and recreating that atmosphere that exists in a team when two riders are friends, and it is very rare, is not easy. But the two have known each other for a long time I'm sure they'll find the square".
The Sprint novelty
The new Sprint Race for 2023 caused a stir. Do you like this new format?
"You know, I understand the point of view of the pilots and I think it's super right. However, for us who talk about the show, one more race on Saturday undoubtedly brings more entertainment, more public and also interest for the weekend. For this: from my point of view it is a very positive decision”.
Sunday we return to the track, at our house, obviously with the GP visible exclusively on Sky: what atmosphere will we breathe? What race do you expect?
“After the victory in Austria, in the post-race interview, Bagnaia told us that he had a pending account with Misano, because last year he crashed and now he wants redemption. This shows Pecco's winning mentality and how he will come to this race, in which he practically lost the title last year. Quartararo will look behind him to try and avoid the arrival of his rivals. Obviously we are at our home so what can I say: I certainly expect a beautiful, fun and unforgettable race!”
