Ferrari team principal Frederic Vasseur he comments on the weekend of the Azerbaijan GP in which he obtained the first podium of his adventure in red, amidst the satisfaction for the step forward made and Leclerc's contract.
Vasseur's statements
What feeling do you have with your first podium in Ferrari?
“It doesn't matter what I feel. Count the step forward made in terms of performance. Today's race is certainly not a victory, but it represents consistency. After Melbourne we haven't been able to put all the elements together. Now we go to Miami and hopefully better”.
Is there room for improvement with the updates?
“I think everyone will bring updates in the next races. I think the performance is linked to the fact that we managed to take advantage of the package we brought. We worked much better in operational terms and I am very satisfied”.

Do you consider the race pace of the last part as a great success being similar to that of Red Bull?
“I think Red Bull never manages. The difference between the start and the end of the stint comes from the fact that we managed. Red Bull expected to do two stints and pushed, we wanted to do one. We finally found a pace equal to them for this”.
The rumors about his future… are they all bad?
"Yup, Charles said he loves Ferrari and wants to become world champion with Ferrari. We are at the beginning of the season when all the hoaxes come out”.

How proud are you of him?
"It made for a perfect weekend. Magical and long-distance overtaking he handled great. He only made one mistake in qualifying by hitting a wall and he was disappointed. For me it wasn't a mistake, as he achieved his goal”.
We were excited about Charles' weekend, while Sainz's?
“Performance belongs to both. So far Carlos has also been in front of him. It was very hard for Carlos, especially in qualifying. You have lost some confidence and when you lose it in Baku, like in Monaco, you go into great trouble. I am happy with his fifth place considering that it was immediately understood that it was not his weekend ”.
