In view of the development of the tires that will be worn by the single-seaters in 2023, Alfa Romeo will be the first team to carry out, together with Pirelli, the initial testing phase of the prototype tires at the start of the season.
With the return of the circus to the 'old continent', the test phase presided over by the only Formula 1 tire supplier also returns. In fact, in the week after the highly anticipated weekend of the Imola grand prix, the Swiss team based in Hinwil will be called upon to use its C42 as a 'forklift car', to allow Pirelli to carry out the first studies in view of the development of what will be next year's tyres. The precision tests will take place in the 'small Nürburgring' in Imola on Tuesday 26 and Wednesday 27 April.
The calendar of 25 days of annual tests allowed to Pirelli, however, is not yet fully known or confirmed, and this would be given by the quantity and density of grands prix that will be held in this 2022 world championship. The consequence is that Pirelli is struggling to find easy dates to carry out the tests, as the weeks of stop between one race and another are very few. This could lead to using some free practice sessions as a venue for testing, with the trick of using two teams on the track at the same time to reduce and optimize times.
