Without race week, it was expected it could be a quiet Sunday… but no. The big twist in fact it comes from home FIA. The theme? The much discussed TD39.
What is TD39
Let's first make a small recap: during last season, with the novelty of ground effect cars, the cars were subject to the problem of pouring. The team that showed the most problems in this respect was the Mercedes, with Lewis Hamilton suffering several back problems, most notably during the Azerbaijan Grand Prix in Baku. After a series of discussions, the FIA decided to introduce the new directive, the TD39, in which it was decided that the floor would be raised in some parts between 10 and 15 mm. A big change that had a significant impact on the performance of the F1-75. Clearly, the TD39 wasn't the only element that got the in trouble Ferrari, but it cannot be hidden that it has influenced his performances.

The decision of the FIA
However, there is something new and it is to communicate it Motorsport.com. Indeed, according to what has been learned, it seems that the Federation has decided to repeal the directive. The reason may be hidden in the regulation: in fact, it was decided to lift the pavement of the bottom by 15 mm and the rear diffuser by 10 mm. Indeed, according to the FIA, this parameter could be enough to control the porpoising phenomenon. So… has there been a real change with the elimination of the TD39? In theory not, but it is still a factor to take into consideration in a season which, for now, hasn't yet given us great flashes but which hopes to bring them to Australia as early as next week.
