"It all started from a phone call, Gene he called me and said he didn't want to extend the contract which expired at the end of the season and that was it". Guenther Steiner come back to talk later of farewell to Haas. The now former team principal of the American team, who spoke during theAutosport International 2024, recounted his reaction following the choice which – via a phone call – was communicated to him by Gene Haas: “I don't know if it was a surprise. Ultimatelyi – continues Steiner – it's always a surprise but then in the end he owns the team, he can do what he wants and it's his decision".
Steiner talks about his future after leaving Haas
After more than 10 years, therefore, Steiner said goodbye to Haas for good. The decision was made by president Gene, surprising everyone in the paddock. With this choice, however, the question arises spontaneously: What will be Steiner's future? The South Tyrolean has no doubts: he will stay in the pits for a couple of months to dedicate himself completely to his family. “Currently – explained Steiner – I just want to relax a bit. It's been a difficult 10 years and I have a lot of things to do: there's a lot to clean at home. It's also nice to be with family, my daughter is 14 years old and therefore quite demanding. Trying to manage it seems to be more difficult than managing an F1 team at the moment, then I'll be doing this for a few months".
Waiting from the beginning
Head to the family. Steiner has very clear ideas about his future. The 58-year-old will have the opportunity to watch Haas from home as the 2024 season gets closer and closer to the start. The start is in fact scheduled for next March 2nd for the Bahrain GP, but great attention will already be given to the test scheduled the week before, always on the route that will kick off the 2024 vintage.
