All that was missing was the announcement, which has finally arrived. We needed the votes of F1 Commission to change the structure of the Sprint format weekend. Starting from 2024, in fact, there will be a new order to follow regarding the carrying out of events.
Sprint, the new organization chosen by the F1 Commission: the Shootout moves to Friday
During 2023 they were well contested 6 sprints. A number that left some doubts. If on the one hand, however, there are those who do not agree with the Sprint format - like, for example, Verstappen – there are also those who have embraced the cause of the mini-race like Charles Leclerc. Despite the different visions, the choice of Formula 1 is clear: 2024 Sprints will also take place in the 6 season. In fact, the structure of the weekend will change: the Sprint Shootout will move to Friday afternoon (following FP1 on Friday morning), with the Sprint which will take place on Saturday morning. Once the Sprint chapter has been archived, make room for qualification – valid to establish the starting grid of the race – scheduled in Saturday afternoon (as happens in classic race weekends), with the GP as always ready to take place on Sunday.

Sprint milestones for 2024 confirmed
The big news, therefore, as regards the Sprint, is linked solely and exclusively to the organization of the weekend. The choice on the part of the teams is to give more steadiness and coherence of action. In 2023, in fact, initially the focus was on qualifying - scheduled for Friday - in view of the GP. Separating the two events was Saturday, characterized by both from the Sprint Shootout in the morning and from the same race in the afternoon. In addition to the new Sprint format, the 6 stages in which the weekend structured by the mini-race will take place have also been confirmed, namely the GPs of China, Miami, Austria, USA, Brazil and Qatar.
