The 2022 F1 World Championship is about to end and, also for issues related to Soccer World Cup, it was decided at the beginning of the season to close the season in Abu Dhabi, before the beginning of December. With this choice, the teams will have one of the longest winter breaks ever, given that, in 2023, we will only have a test pre-season in Bahrain, which will also be the circuit it will host the first GP scheduled for next year.
Too busy: teams need a break!
Teams, even if they always have guaranteed holidays for its employees during the Christmas period, they continue to be productive even between Christmas and New Years. According to many stables, this would result in a overload that would not be good for the mechanics. Precisely for this reason, in recent weeks, some builders, led by Mercedes, they put forward a proposal to the FIA to make mandatory a winter break, as already happens in the 3 weeks in the summer. Indeed, during this period of time, all developments come blocked and it is not possible to intervene on the machine.
According to various teams, including Toto wolff first, it would be appropriate to add a window 2 weeks between the holiday season and the new year in which freeze the cars to resume later epiphany. Such a break would make it possible to give everyone time to be with their families and rest given the season from record what will be that 2023 with 24 races, the highest number of weekends in F1 history.
Wolff: "This would benefit everyone"
Furthermore, according to Wolff, the introduction of this stop would be appropriate to the benefit of all teams and would involve a greater concentration of technicians. All this, would do nothing but bring best cars for anyone. “It's great that this season ends a couple of weeks earlier than last year, also because the employees are at their limit. I think we will agree a winter break with the teams. Not everyone agrees, but we will for our staff. One or two weeks of winter vacation they will benefit everyone. Of course, the factory work will continue over Christmas and New Year's, but the racing team, which goes from place to place throughout the year, will be able to rest. Many team leaders would like to repeat what happens in the summer: a compulsory two-week break including Christmas and New Year's. It is still being discussed, but there are positive signs. I am sure that, for the sake of our staff, we will agree”.
