As far as can be clearly judged, it was an important day for the Ferrari. On Friday free practice, Carlos Sainz take them home FP1 ahead of Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton. Ferrari misses the appointment with the victory from the Austrian Grand Prix. A heavy fast, if compared to the excellent start to the season which saw Sainz and Leclerc as the undisputed protagonists in Bahrain.
Victory Goal
This weekend can be a great opportunity for Sainz. Indeed, the Spaniard can undoubtedly take advantage of the various penalties of his opponents. With a Mercedes in trouble, Perez and Leclerc in penalty, Sainz can have his say and play, inevitably with Max Verstappen, the possible victory on Sunday.
Sainz: FP3 will be important
To do this, however, you need to grow step by step, obtaining positive results especially in the third free practice session, the one that will precede qualifying for which the Spanish driver, together with Verstappen, is the best candidate for pole. Sainz knows this and, at the end of the day, he declared.
It was a different Friday here in Austin. In FP1 we managed to complete our programme, but FP2 was dedicated to the Pirelli tests, so it was an hour and a half to try next year's tires without changing the car set-up. This also means that tomorrow's FP3 will be even more important than usual in view of qualifying. However, overall, we were relatively competitive today, so we are confident for tomorrow.
