It was a super particular qualification, full of many changes and above all of penalties. At Spa it is pole position for Max Verstappen but, cause penalty, will start from the bottom. Carlos Sainz will therefore start in front of everyone. It will be a fundamental race for the Spaniard, to find a victory that is for him and the Ferrari it would really mean a lot.
Mission accomplished
For Sainz, despite the pole he has conquered Verstappen, it was a very good qualifying. Second place ahead of Perez was his goal, as it would allow him to start ahead of everyone in the race. And so it finally was.
Sainz: “Verstappen flies”
It will therefore be a very important match for Sainz, in which clearly, the goal is to win: "The ride was pretty good – declared the Spaniard – I'm happy to start on pole but not so happy to see the gap to Max and the advantage Red Bull has over us. We have to keep analyzing to understand why Red Bull is so fast at this track and we are so far behind. Starting on pole is the best thing though, we'll try to win tomorrow. My first attempt in Q3 was cleaner. The second round of launch however was a bit of a mess. I found myself in front and didn't get a slipstream, we messed up a bit. But the first lap was enough for P2 which I knew would give me pole. I am baffled by such a huge gap from Max and Red Bull. This makes me wonder how tomorrow will go. Our race pace is better than in qualifying, but we will definitely have to find something."
