An unlucky, very unlucky Saturday for Carlos Sainz. In qualifying, the Spaniard doesn't go beyond ninth position. A result that clearly doesn't satisfy anyone, especially if you evaluate teammate Leclerc's pole position. But there is an explanation for the performance of Sainz, who had a problem with the engine starter: “Today I was definitely fighting for pole, like in other races. – said the Spaniard at the end of qualifying – But in Q3 I got the red flag just as I was finishing the lap. And I couldn't get a valid lap. In the second attempt I had a problem with the car engine starter. It didn't turn on. I'm angry, because we shouldn't have these choke problems. It was just a disaster. I was only able to do one preparation lap and the flying one I did had cold tyres. And at that point I almost banged it 2 or 3 times. And everything that could have happened in Q3 happened, I wasn't even able to do a clean lap."
Qualification that didn't convince, but now head to tomorrow: “We are now in ninth position, while I could have been on the front row and fighting for the win. You can imagine the anger I have inside of me right now. Tomorrow I'll be aggressive, I'll try to come back even though I know we won't have the performance advantage we had in Bahrain and Jeddah”.
