A good start is half done and Carlos Sainz started really well. The Spanish rider concludes the FP1 in first place in the standings, ahead of his teammate Leclerc and the Red Bull by the landlord Sergio Perez.
Goal ascent
Like in America, because of the tests Pirelli carried out in FP2, the attention in view of this weekend has shifted and focused on the first session. For Sainz the time has come for redemption: after a splendid qualifying last week, in which he took pole, the Spanish was forced to retire in the race on Sunday missing out on a great opportunity. In October, out of two races played, Sainz sees a double retirement which for now weighs heavily.
Sainz: "The track is not easy at all"
Therefore, the goal is solidity for this weekend. However, it is not excluded that the Ferrari can change the power unit to its number 55, who would be forced to serve a penalty. Sainz knows this very well and, at the end of the session, he declared.
"Overall it was a good day here in Mexico. We completed the planned program and also tried several set-up settings on the car. It's not an easy track, as there is a congenital lack of downforce due to the altitude, but it's also a lot of fun to drive here.
I also want to say thanks to all the Mexican audience for the great support. It's always impressive to arrive in the arena area and hear them shouting very loud. For them too we will try to offer a great show for the rest of the weekend”.
