The words of Carlos Sainz, landlord, at the end of qualifying for the Spanish Grand Prix
Also this time Carlos Sainz was just a couple of tenths away from grabbing his first pole in Formula One. In his home Grand Prix, in Spain, the Ferrari driveri concludes iqualifying Saturday in third place, behind Max Verstappen and teammate Leclerc.
It was a good session for the Spaniard, very solid as always. Perhaps he would have hoped for pole position, which however is still missing. In front of his fans, however, Sainz wants an unforgettable match.
"Was a weekend difficult until now - declared the number 55 of the grid – the conditions weren't the easiest due to the heat and the wind, and so we struggled to find the right balance for the car. We suffered a lot with the rear, we tried to improve session after session in the rear wing settings and set-ups".
“Unfortunately I wasn't able to do a good lap with used tyres. In the end, however, my performance was decent and this will allow us to fight for the top in the race".
“I think the key will be the start, I start from a good position and I have a long straight ahead to be able to take advantage of the slipstream of those in front of me, so I'll have to try to have a good starting point when the traffic lights go out. After that you need to know how to manage best tires because in the heat it is even harder in this respect. I believe anything is possible, we will do our best to fight up front. I'm ready!"
