"To be honest there were negotiations, but we were never really close to a total agreement”. Daniel Ricciardo thus comments on the possibility, in 2021, of land in Classic Ferrari for sale in place of Sebastian Vettel. “There has never been crazy closeness – explained the Australian – also because it was a top team and, in these circumstances, the procedures are always very long and there is always something to underline and consider, but I never thought or gave priority to them".
“Ferrari? A team like any other"
In the end, the possibility fell through and Ferrari decided to bet on it Sainz (who will say goodbye to the Scuderia at the end of this season to make room for Hamilton). A negotiation, that of seeing Ricciardo in Ferrari, also failed for the idea of the Australian, who did not put the Maranello team in first place in his hierarchical ladder: "I always thought about the opportunity and that if the timing was right it could happen. Obviously when Ferrari is there we know that we are talking about a very prestigious team, but it's a team like any other: I don't give much weight to all the other things that come with it".

Ricciardo's career: the failed negotiation with Ferrari
After a failed deal, Ricciardo's career has been full of ups and downs. From the difficulties in McLaren, until the possible rebirth in Alpha Tauri. The Australian was left out of the line-up last season (which began with the role of third Red Bull driver), but is took over from De Vries in the current season and, starting from 2024, he will be the official driver of Racing Bulls together with Yuki tsunoda. A great chance for Ricciardo who, if he were to amaze, could really open the doors for his possible arrival - or rather, return - to Red Bull instead of Perez, especially considering the Mexican's contract expiring at the end of 2024.
