Now four races from the end of the world championship, the biggest loser for now seems to be Daniel Ricciardo. The Australian driver, after being fired by McLaren, is still looking for a seat in sight for 2023, even if this possibility seems to be getting further and further away.
A matter of choices
It is difficult to be able to represent Daniel Ricciardo's career. Incredible start to the Red Bull, his decision to challenge an interesting (but also premature) project like that of the Alpine undoubtedly left one speechless. A decision that, wishing, would bear fruit seeing the big step forward that the French team is making from season to season. with fourth place in the constructors looking ever closer. After signing with Alpine, Ricciardo after two unexcited years chose to try another very intriguing challenge: McLaren.
Season to forget
The decision was, in one respect, even sensible, but things didn't actually turn out as expected in the end. Last year's victory in Monza seemed like it could give a turning point to his season full of many low moments which, since then, have only increased. Ricciardo's 2022 vintage will end in a very disappointing way, with still many industry insiders failing to quite explain what went wrong with the Woking team.
Brown: 'Ricciardo rejected Haas and Williams'
Even McLaren did not evaluate his season positively and in fact decided to fire the Australian driver, who still had one year on his contract. Instead of him there will be Oscar Piastres. So what will happen to Daniel Ricciardo? The most popular option seems to be that of third driver of the Mercedes, otherwise not there will be a future in F1 for him. But really no team came forward to put him under contract? The McLaren team principal gave a clear idea of the situation Zak Brown which he stated. “Sorry to see Ricciardo without a seat next year. He could still have decided to join Williams or Haas. Obviously I understand that he is not particularly interested in racing for a team fighting for tenth position in the championship. That said, I hope to see him back on track in 2024".
