It wasn't a good start at all for McLaren and Daniel Ricciardo. The Australian's season has so far been full of lows, undoubtedly due to the great difficulties encountered with the car and also to bad luck. The number three driver on the grid did not have the opportunity to test the MCL36 at the tests in Bahrain and the feeling with the new ground effect car still seems to be absent.
Ricciardo: "We'll get back up"
But Ricciardo has high hopes for his future, he believes that the team can recover and that it will also be able to make him take away some satisfaction: "I have 100% trust in people like Andreas Seidl. We were in a crisis in Bahrain, I think we came out of it but we need to steer further and I think he is one of the best to do it. In six months I might not be surprised where we will be and, I add, I wouldn't be surprised if we were to win a race either. – he told The-Race – I still believe in the team and in the growth process we have undertaken“.
“We have to be patient”
A Daniel who looks super positive, in the hope that the evolution of the season can only help him and the team, who are still in difficulty at the moment: “If in two-three races we are fighting for the top-5 it will be a bonus. But to stay reasonable, you need to realize that we're not looking for three or four tenths. We are more than a second away from fighting for victories, and I doubt it will come from one day to the next. We have to be patient, also for the well-being of the team, and maybe in Melbourne we can already fight for points. I know it's not aiming very high, but that's as far as we can go until we get some big updates. Any top-10 finish has to be taken as a small victory now."
