Situation in progress for Red Bull. The Austrian team, world champion in pilots with Max Verstappen, is in trouble. Although the Dutchman's victory in Bahrain, which brought the challenge of victories with Ferrari back to total parity, indicates that the car is very strong at the moment, there are still problems with the RB18. One above all: the weight.
News for Imola
From this year, as we know, in fact, the FIA, in the new regulation, has declared that the weight of a single-seater with ground effect must be 798 kg (an increase compared to the 795 kg at the beginning of the season). According to the latest reports, the car is clearly overweight and a drop in weight for the RB18 is in fact expected for the Imola Grand Prix, as stated by Helmut Marko on Servus TV:
“Ferrari is a car that has always proved to be fast, in all conditions and regardless of asphalt temperatures or tyres. Our car is certainly more complex to set up, but at Imola we will show up with a drop in weight. This should give us a significant advantage in terms of timing."
Tight controls
Should it be confirmed, great news is therefore expected for Red Bull at the Imola weekend. A weight reduction that will obviously cost the Austrian team a lot: “At least 250 thousand euros” – Marko said. A lot of money, also considering the budget cap factor, which obviously puts everyone to attention, including the FIA. In fact, as never before this year, the checks must be precise, as also requested by Binotto, to ensure that all the teams respect the spending limits allowed for this season. We are only at the beginning, even of the battles at a political level, and we are already convinced that we will still see some good ones.
