The telenovela, because that's the only way to describe it, linked to Budget cap has just begun. Red Bull has its eye on after the FIA ha communique to have passed, not going beyond the 5% threshold allowed, the maximum spending limit… but it's not over yet. The Austrian team is ready to play its cards to defend itself against the accusations that cast shadows on the 2021 season, but not only.
Red Bull: "We haven't broken the budget cap"
Waiting to understand what the sanctions of the Federations may be, the Red Bull is not there and declares that it is certain that it has not exceeded the maximum spending limit of 145 million dollars. In this regard, we report the press release of the Milton Keynes stables who thus demonstrated his disagreement with the FIA's decision.
“We note with surprise and disappointment the FIA's conclusions regarding a 'minor spending offence. Our submission for 2021 was below the cost cap, so we need to double check the FIA's conclusions carefully, as our belief remains that the relevant costs are below the 2021 cost cap amount. Despite the conjecture and the placement of others – it is read – there is obviously a procedure to follow under the FIA rules, which we will respectfully follow as we consider all the options available to us“.
Ready to go to an appeal or a plea deal
Still unaware of the type of sanction that the FIA will want to apply, Red Bull wants to continue with the matter and does not rule out the appeal. A risky move, however, given that in the event that he loses the appeal, the penalties could worsen. The second option is to resort to the plea bargain. According to rumors, Red Bull would have in fact breached by no more than 1,9 million pounds, which could allow him to get away with a fine.
