Red Bull is looking for the center for the third year in a row
With the tests in Bahrain officially archived, it is time to turn the page and officially focus on the first race of the season, which will exceptionally take place on Saturday - as in Jeddah, due to Ramadan. During these three days of testing we were able to observe the first steps of the 2024 single-seaters and the work of the teams. We have now reached the third year of the new regulation which brought ground effect cars back to Formula 1.
Over the last two years we have seen one team excel over the others, namely Red Bull. The Austrian team acted as a bit of a school for the rest of the grid which, already last season, began to move closer to the path taken by Newey and his companions. In the meantime, however, the same thing Newey further evolved the car, arriving at a new and impressive version of the RB20 feared more than the others by his opponents. Although Red Bull seems solid, some doubts remain about Sergio Perez, who is in more difficulty than Max with the RB20. Last season the Dutchman was the most fielded driver in Fanta F1 and this year he cannot be outdone. However, given the dominance of last season, the Fantasy managers will have to come up with more money to have him on the team.
The cards are shuffled in the center of the group
If the fight for the championship therefore seems lost from the start, for the others there is still the hope of being able to steal something more from the Austrian team than the single victory obtained by Ferrari with Sainz in 2023. Although some may have been more conservative we have in fact during these three days of testing I was able to see some steps forward from teams such as Ferrari, McLaren although still with some problems to resolve, RB - ex AlphaTauri. All three teams ended last season on a positive note and this year we expect something more. Especially from Ferrari, eager to return to being the alternative to Red Bull, and Visa Cash App RB, already labeled as the little Red Bull.
The impression is that the fight in the middle of the group is already much more interesting than that of last season - at least than that seen in the initial phase. However, there are also some teams that seemed to be more in difficulty or further behind than the others, in particular Alpine, as well as Aston Martin.
