The entrance of Porsche into Formula One it now seemed imminent. With the company change of regulations starting from 2026, the Volkswagen group brand was ready to formalize its debut in the Circus, but something went wrong...
Porsche-Red Bull: from negotiation done to failure
The agreement between Red Bull and the German company was now done, but things didn't go as planned. During the weekend of the Gran Italy Award, especially on Friday morning, Porsche he announced that the negotiation with the Milton Keynes team would not go through. Many doubts and perplexities about an agreement that, a few months ago, it seemed now imminent.
Marko's explanation
It was Red's consultant who explained everything Bull Helmut Marko who, on the matter, said.
“We don't need anyone at the moment. We have the fastest driver until 2028. We have Adrian Newey, the best designer. The engine department will be fully operational in 55 weeks and the first power unit has already been switched on: we are completely self-sufficient".
Different visions
Very strong words from Marko who completely refuses the help, in terms of engine, that Porsche was ready to give him. Red Bull consultant, he then went on to explain Porsche's intentions, believed to be wrong by the men of Milton Keynes.
“Porsche had indicated its intention to take over or double every position in Red Bull. In other words, they wanted to control pretty much everything and obviously that's not how it works. Neither side would benefit from the settlement. It was clear that it would become too bureaucratic and that we would lose our flexibility as a team. And now that the break with Porsche has become official, we've received some surprising interest. And we're talking to Honda."
