Porpoising: a long-term problem?
In yesterday's session, Thursday 14 July, the Technical Advisory Committee met to discuss pouring e flexible funds. FIA, F1 and team technical directors have come to the conclusion that porpoising is a very serious problem to be eliminated as soon as possible.
However, the solution is not that simple. Teams haven't had any major complaints in recent weeks, but that doesn't mean porpoising won't happen again. The circuits on which we have raced recently had this effect to a minimal extent, which is actually thought to be the case will return forcefully in the next races.
The problem, then, does not end here: for the 2023 a prediction is made worsening of the bouncing of the cars, since the single-seaters will develop greater downforce. The Circus has decided to take measures that will be implemented from the weekend of Belgian Grand Prix, but no one knows if the same ones will also work for next season.
Flexible funds: changes from Belgium
Another topic that caused discussion was the flexible flat bottom. After the weekend of the Canadian Grand Prix, in fact, some doubts had been raised regarding the excessive flexibility of the funds of some single-seaters, such as Ferraris and Red Bulls.
These had passed the verification tests with flying colors, but a suspicious flexibility was noticed in one back area where fewer checks are carried out. For this reason, since Belgian GP (and not from the French GP as decided at the beginning) the verifications they will be done on single-seaters more severe.
This choice divided the paddock, especially at the top team level. Mercedes was pushing to apply the new directives as soon as possible, while Red Bull and Ferrari they spoke against the idea of introducing changes during the current season. Furthermore, the Red Team itself has made it known that it will be forced to introduce updates in this regard, while the other two teams will not change anything.
