Among the last six races of the 2023 season, with Max Verstappen getting ever closer to being proclaimed world champion for the third consecutive time, the Formula 1 will stop on the American continent. In fact, we will fly from the end of October until the beginning of November, in three different countries: United States, with the Austin GP scheduled for 20 to 22 October; Mexico, from 27 to 29 October and in Interlagos, with the Brazilian GP scheduled for 3 to 5 November. There are many events scheduled and, with a view to experiencing the last tour de force of the season, Pirelli has revealed the compounds that will be available to the teams in the respective three stages.
Pirelli, the compounds change for the Mexican GP
As regards the GP in Austin and Interlagos, the compounds - compared to those used last year - have not changed: in fact, they will be used the C2 as a hard tyre, the C3 as a medium and the C4 as a soft tyre. The biggest change, however, is present for the Mexican GP, with Pirelli using softer compounds. At Perez's house we will have the use of the C3 as a hard tyre, C4 as a medium and C5 as a soft tyre.
Working for 2024
The news doesn't seem to have ended here. Looking towards 2024, a new version of the C4 will be tested during free practice for the Mexican GP, which will be a very interesting test for Pirelli which, after having tested a new version of the C2 during Japan's free practice at Suzuka, will also allow riders to test another type of compound in view of next season. For this reason, in free practice for the Mexican GP, the teams will receive two sets of experimental tires - the famous Proto tires - which they can use whenever they want during both sessions.
Why the Mexican GP to test the new C4? Pirelli's explanation
The choice of Mexico as a stage in which to carry out Pirelli tests is very simple, and it is linked at the Sprint event which will take place in both Austin and Interlagos. As regards the American track, we are talking about the debut of the Sprint format, while Brazil is - given the excellent results achieved in past editions - now a typical stage in which to carry out the coveted mini race on Saturday, conditioned by a single session of free practice available for teams and drivers on Friday.
