Max Verstappen greets 2022 with another result which, at least morally, he can add to his collection. The Dutch was indeed voted by the ten team principals of Formula 1 as driver of the year.
Driver of the year: Max again
Another award, the umpteenth, for the World Champion that again this time concludes in front of Charles Leclerc. Verstappen takes home 207 points, while Leclerc 144. The Monegasque has a slight advantage over Russell who wins the last box of the podium at 127 lengths. The only victory Mercedes, branded Russell, may have undoubtedly influenced the voting of the team principals, which place Hamilton fourth with 100 points. A bit disappointing instead Carlos Sainz, only seventh with 68 points, behind Sergio Perez fifth and Norris sixth.
Seb is there
Rounding out the top ten is Fernando Alonso which, after a season characterized by little reliability, he scored 67 points. A nice advantage to the detriment of Bottas which covers the ninth square with 29 lengths. Rounding out the top ten is four-time world champion Sebastian Hag.
The count
The points that have been awarded to the drivers are based on the system currently in place in Formula 1: 25 points were in fact given to the first, while the tenth won only one. Finally, the preferences of the team principals have been merged to create the official standings.
