Sergio Pérez, 33 years old, 12 spent racing in F1, like every driver dreams of the world championship and his opportunity seems to have presented itself. The fifth round of the season begins for him as a winner, after taking home the top step of the two Azeri races, he moves up to six points behind his teammate, Max Verstappen.
"I want to be champion"
Those most active on social media will certainly not have missed Sergio Pérez's tweet immediately after the Jeddah grand prix. Enthusiastic for his first win of the season, the Mexican took the liberty of concluding his message to the fans with a “I want to be champion” promptly removed by Perez, by his own will or not, we don't know.
Difficult relationship between the two?
Last year, despite Red Bull's more than perfect season, it was already clear that Pérez's tolerance was on its last legs, and on a couple of occasions, the veil of perfection slipped, revealing some tension between the two bulls.

For example in Monaco, a race won by Pérez. The XNUMX-year-old started on pole, conquered after a red flag caused by Pérez himself, following which Verstappen allegedly accused him of an intentional crash. Or again at the Brazilian Grand Prix where, when the team's request to cede the position to Pérez, for the fight against Leclerc, Max would have refused, getting cold “This proves who he really is” by the Mexican.
To date, Sergio Pérez has a real chance of winning the world championship by playing it against the Dutch on equal terms.
Perez: “Red Bull doesn't have a favorite son"
Arrived in Miami, he was immediately questioned by the microphones of Sky to which he reassured:
"We are treated equally, I have had the same opportunities as Max. We are in a fight and they let us do it. For them the simplest thing would be to give a team order, to make sure we get both cars to the finish, but Red Bull are demonstrating what you have to do in these situations.”
A veiled dig at your teammate? Who can tell, surely the track will do the talking.
