In the factories of the F1 teams there is never a moment of rest. All employees must make an effort, sometimes even to the limit of their strength, to try to design new components for the development of the machine in the shortest possible time. Furthermore, during this Covid era, health regulations have become increasingly restrictive to counter the pandemic. This led to the introduction of the curfew, which did not allow the mechanics to be able to work on the single-seaters after a certain time.
Winter break like summer break: nine days off guaranteed
Since the number of races has increased dramatically, during the summer break between the first and second part of the championship, it was decided to introduce a rule that would not allow to teams to work on the car or design new components for it for 14 days.
This year the calendar should have consisted of 24 races, but with the renunciation (again due to Covid) by the China, we went to a total of 23. Compared to previous years, such a large number of races leads to very high physical and mental stress which is not good for the health of the mechanics and also of the drivers.

All approved
For this reason, in recent months there had been meetings between stables and FIA in which the introduction of a had been discussed winter break like the one made in the summer. “Many of us Team Principals would like to repeat what we already do in the summer break, at least starting from Christmas until the new year, for two weeks. Obviously we can still discuss it, but there was a positive indication for people's well-being”. These had been the words of Toto wolff, team principal of Mercedes, at the beginning October and, in the past few days, it has arrived approval unanimously halted any development for nine days starting from 24th December until the new year. This will bring a certain tranquility inside the garages of each team that will have these holidays available for clear your head and relax.
