"Like father Like Son", one might say. Comparisons have been made several times between the hepta world champion Michael and his son Mick, but the paths of the two could not be more different. However, one of the epilogues seems to be very similar: Mick Schumacher did not renew the contract that bound him to Ferrari and the Driver Academy, signing instead to become reserve driver of Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS Formula 1 Team.
After lost his seat in Haas in favor of Nico Hülkenberg, in fact, the German son of art has decided to remain in the Formula 1 Circus in a different role. Schumacher will be responsible for the development of the W14, the new car from Brackley. His work will be divided between the simulator and commitments on the track and in marketing. These are Mick's words in the press release:
“I am delighted to be part of the Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS Formula 1 Team for 2023 as a reserve driver, and I am ready to give my full contribution to their performance in such a professional and competitive environment. This is a new departure for me, and I am happy and grateful to Toto and the others involved in the project for the trust. Formula 1 is a fascinating world where you never stop improving, so I want to learn as much as possible and give my best for the team.”

Wolff: "Mick Schumacher a talented driver"
These instead are the words of Toto Wolff in statement: “Mick is a talented young driver, and we are happy to have him in the team. He is a hard worker, has a calm and methodical approach, and still wants to learn and improve as a driver. These are all important qualities, and we are happy to help him develop the W14. We also know that, thanks to his two years of experience in Formula 1, he will be ready to replace Lewis or George if the need arises.”
