In the past few months, Zak Brown, CEO of McLaren, had paid a visit to the Red Bull engine factory. The passage of him to Milton Keynes had been intended as a possibility break with the current supplier of the papaya team, namely the Mercedes. Everything completely denied.
McLaren and Mercedes until 2030, the renewal on the supply of power units arrives
During the FP1 of the Abu Dhabi GPIn fact, the official announcement has arrived: the German team will supply the power units to the English team until 2030. The current contract expired in 2025, last season before the transition to increasingly new engines hybrids. Comparisons were therefore made between the Red Bull PU and the Mercedes PU, retaining the latter anyway very valid.
A combination that has been going on since 1995, stopped in 2014 when McLaren chose Honda as an engineer, and then returned to 2021. 3 pilot titles, 2 per Mika Hakkinen ed 1 for Lewis Hamilton, but also 1 constructors' title since 1998. To conclude, 77nd pole position e 79 victories, with 91 fast laps attachments.

The words of Brown and Toto Wolff after the renewal
To make everything official, CEO Zak Brown himself decided to talk about this partnership. In this little interview, the confidence that we want to give to the German engineer as already done in recent years: “Mercedes-Benz was a brilliant partner and reliable for the McLaren Formula 1 Team. LThe extension confirms the confidence that our shareholders and the entire team have in their powertrains. We have, and we can say, been successful together, both in the last three seasons and in the ones before that. We look forward to success in the near future to continue our journey with the aim of fighting at the top of the grid.”
There was no shortage of response from Mercedes Team Principal Toto Wolff, who talked about a transparent and sincere supply: “Working with top-level customer teams has always been one of our strong points when it comes to our commitment to the world of motorsport. There is no denying that it brings many advantages: first of all it provides a clear point of comparison, it allows us to speed up our technical learning and it also strengthens the overall F1 business for Mercedes-Benz. Suffice it to say that McLaren has always been a fierce and loyal competitor since 2021, especially in the second half of this season. McLaren's performance highlights the importance of equal supply to all customer teams in the sport if we are to reach the target of 10 teams fighting for podiums.".
