In the Mercedes house you change. The 2023 season did not bear the well-hoped-for results and in Brackley the car will not be the only element that will change.
Mercedes, Allisson is the new technical director
The novelty concerns the role of technical director: James Allison, in fact, assumes the role of new DT of Mercedes, with Mike Elliott inheriting the post of CTO vacated by the former Ferrari driver. A very clear choice in Mercedes which did not accept the start of the 2023 season which, combined with the 2022 vintage, saw the Brackley stables bring home only one win. From that moment, considering that the W13 had not given the right guarantees, Mercedes had thought of a possible change that did not arrive. The W14, in fact, has taken up the same philosophy of last year's car, without bearing the hoped-for results.

Toto Wolff speaks
Precisely for this reason, in Imola we will have one new Mercedes that will come much closer to the current one Red Bull. A choice that, as explained to Motorsport.com by the Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff, will obviously see Allison much more active in Brackley: “This is a process that was born out of Mike Elliott and we've reversed roles. Mike has moved to be CTO, while James Allison has returned to the position of technical director, and will report to Mike. Mike will have the task of directing team building towards future needs which also include the involvement of artificial intelligence, to lay the foundations for a structure that can be successful for many years to come".
Now we need to calm down
Mercedes has therefore chosen the path to take to try to go back up: it will take time, this is obvious ... but this time will it really be worth it?
