"I wanted to start my adventure straight away. When I realized that I would have to wait many months before debuting in AlphaTauri, I have to say that it was very frustrating”. So Laurent Mekies he commented on the early stages afterwards his farewell to Ferrari waiting to become the new AlphaTauri team principal. A new role, certainly of a higher level, which the Frenchman has accepted and decided to respect well 6 months of gardening. A duration that he himself considered, at least at the beginning, to be truly excessive: “I believe that I would have absorbed all the intensity of the busy calendar that we found ourselves living. Thanks for the break – explained Mekies – instead I had the opportunity to think and evaluate the situation as a whole".
After Ferrari, Mekies is preparing for the role of AlphaTauri team principal
Following his farewell to Ferrari, Mekies is ready to take on the role of AlphaTauri team principal from 2024, replacing Franz Tost. Not an easy role, particularly if you consider the importance of the figure that Tost has been over these decades for AlphaTauri. Her departure will undoubtedly be a great loss in Faenza and, precisely for this reason, a prominent figure will be needed to replace her.

For Mekies, taking the reins will certainly not be an easy task. The former sporting director of Ferrari – who he was replaced during the season by Diego Ioverno – will have at his disposal the same driver pair that he had the opportunity to study during his gardening this season. On the one hand, in fact, there will be Yuki tsunoda, while on the other Daniel Ricciardo, who has been brought up several times for a possible future in Red Bull, replacing Perez. Both drivers will need to do better, just like at Fanta F1. The Japanese, at the end of the 2023 season, boasts one fantasy average of +2.23 points, characterized by 3 withdrawals. Ricciardo's statistics are slightly lower, also considering the number of races held +2.05 points brought home following 2 collections.
