These are certainly not easy days in Formula One. Like every summer, in addition to the competition on the track, he grows so much so also the political one. In fact, the main topic, now as per tradition, is the budget cap…
The inflation issue
Inflation and the keyword within the budget chapter chapter. As is now known, teams cannot exceed the maximum spending limit of $140 million. For a few weeks however, due to the phenomenon of inflation, many stables they started demonstrating the danger of being able to exceed the maximum ceiling, asking for a 10% increase.
The fear of teams
This topic was discussed during the Formula One Commission gathered in Barcelona, where not all the teams they accepted the proposal, at the moment therefore rejected. But it doesn't seem to have ended there. There are in fact many, six to be precise, the stables who are pushing hard to reach the ceiling of 150 million dollars, hypothesizing that if this rule were not accepted, the risk of not taking part in some competitions is very high.
McLaren takes a risk
To raise the alarm for the his stable was Siedl. The team principal of McLaren states that it is absolutely necessary to increase the budget cap, to avoid unpleasant situations:
“For us, as a team that at the beginning of the year had planned to fall within the Budget Cap, with all these unforeseen events that have arisen we now find ourselves in a position where we can no longer fall within the maximum allowed spending limit, because simply you have certain fixed costs to start the season. With this unexpected and huge increase in costs, especially regarding transportation and bills, we are in the same position as other teams who cannot fit within the Budget Cap this year."
Seidl: “Agreement? I'm confident"
Precisely for this reason, team e F1 I am at work to seek an agreement, which is not very simple: "But I'm confident that with all the ongoing conversations we have with the other teams – said the McLaren team principal – the FIA and F1, we will be able to find a solution that is in the interests of this sport. I don't want to go into too much detail about the discussions we are having at the moment, but the most important thing is that a solution is found in the interests of this sport, a solution for everyone."
“I am absolutely delighted that the Budget Cap is in place. It was a necessity for sports in general. For F1, but also for us as a team, to be able to participate in F1 in a sustainable way from a financial point of view, but also in a position to be competitive from a sporting point of view."
