It rains in the wet at McLaren. The Woking stable was undoubtedly one of the worst in the first race of the season. In Bahrain, in fact, Ricciardo and Norris close out of the points, respectively in fourteenth and fifteenth position.
Norris: “This is our potential”
The situation is by no means the best, especially considering that until last year the British team was fighting to be the third force in the constructors. Too many things go wrong and don't work, as Norris explained: "Right now this is our potential. We have to get used to it. Of course in recent seasons there were many expectations of us, even within the team, not just outside.
"At the moment we haven't been able to do well and we are very, very far from the leaders. – said the English driver – Not just a little. We have to start over and figure out a few things. We're trying to find solutions, but if we were to find them it wouldn't mean we'd be great. in the months to come we will have to understand what is happening and improve. We found ourselves in this position a few years ago. I hope there is more optimism and, together with the McLaren Technology Centre, the team can understand what is happening and how we can get back on track more competitively”.
Too many difficulties
For now, the McL36 is a car that has several problems, from brakes to downforce: “We lack downforce, so tire management is not good. Norris continued. The MCL36 is a difficult single-seater and the tires are difficult to exploit if you don't have downforce. At that point you can't get the tires to work well, because you can't get them into the right window of use. We have understeer, oversteer. Many things happen. Those are the problems. We must try to have less. We need more front load, rear load. It's a matter of aerodynamic load. It all seems very simple, in reality it is not easy to understand how to solve everything”.
