Fearing that Norris' condition would prevent him from racing at Interlagos, the team called up on Thursday Nyck de vries giving the English a rest day. A suspected case of food poisoning, this is the problem for young Lando, struggling with unpleasant symptoms that debilitated him yesterday. The team is still evaluating his condition, and the FP1 they will be crucial in assessing Norris's status. The weekend sprint it doesn't play in favor of Norris among other things, given that the qualifications will already take place at 20:00. Should there be a need, however, De Vries is ready for replacement, as already done with Albon in Williams over the Monza weekend.
Lando there it will be in FP1
At the moment there is no official news from McLaren but as reported by Franco Nugnes on Motorsport.com, and then confirmed by Albert Fabregas, Lando's entourage confirms that he would have had a peaceful night, and that he is feeling better than yesterday. Norris, albeit still weak, should be able to get back in the car and will do so in FP1 at 16pm Italian time, the only session to test the car before parc ferme. Nyck, will intervene in case English should have problems. It is certainly nothing new for Nyck to jump into a new single-seater from one day to the next. Since the beginning of the season he has managed 3 of them, in official sessions, and all for different teams: Williams, Aston Martin, Mercedes. In Abu Dhabi the debut on theAlpha Tauri which he will lead from 2023.
