The summer break is a time to be able to summarize how the first half of the season. Teams and riders are ready to sum up: figure out what went wrong and what worked instead, but not just the only ones.
Isola: “We are very happy”
In fact, this examination is also carried out at home Pirelli. THEItalian company, tire supplier, was faced with a very special situation. The transition to 18'' tires it could have been a big problem, but one that was successfully overcome, as Mario himself admitted Island.
"I'm happy. The performance is good, but above all we have achieved most of the goals we set ourselves. The main aim was to create more action on the track, allowing the riders to battle closely, and I have to say we had races with a lot of action, even in the mid-pack. It was also a great technical challenge for us and for the teams, thanks to the total novelty of the 18-inch tyres. However, our attention remains focused on the riders, because they are the heroes of the show, and our job is to provide them with a tire that allows them to push, attack and fight We don't want to completely change the product, because as I said, it works well ”.
We still need to improve
The goal of Long P but it is still to try to improve, and one of the aspects to change it is related to understeer.
“We have a very good and solid rear tire which pushes the front and generates a bit of understeer in low speed corners. It's a general trend across all the teams, because the new aero package is designed in such a way that the car is very well balanced at high speed, but at low speed it generates this understeer. We are working to design a new structure, front and rear, with a higher level of integrity, so that the cars are faster and faster. We are studying a new, more robust front structure to balance this aspect and reduce understeer. It's not a revolution, nor is it a new product for next year. It's an improvement on the current one, which is good."
