Lewis Hamilton has signed a contract, but not as a driver Formula 1, but as co-producer of a Hollywood film for bring the F1 back to the big screen.
We are used to seeing celebrities and movie stars in the paddocks of the American stages. Formula 1 has always had a particular charm, due to its "narrative" nature. You look for the limit, you touch danger and even those who watch the races from home feel this adrenaline. We still have many of those images from last season – for example the crash at Monza 2021 or Baku 2021 with Max's kick. The focus in this sport has always shifted from man to machine and vice versa, although lately, thanks also to the help of Liberty Medium and his strategy to engage fans more, attention was focused on the pilots, who have become stars in all respects. It is therefore not surprising to see America turning with such interest towards this world which for years has been kept in a beautiful display case, away from eyes unaccustomed to racing.
Hamilton: from the box to the set?
This season has certainly not started in the best way for Lewis, that sees Verstappen e Leclerc aboard two racing cars. The W13 from an "outside the lines" project turned out to be rather a project "outside the fight for the world championship", plus the comparison with the teammate George Russell on some occasions he has created some friction with the team, who just don't know how to make his life easier. The questions about future of the pilot of Mercedes have started to bounce from one side to another, but are mainly linked to the fate of the team and when it will be competitive again.
We always wonder what Lewis Hamilton will do when he hangs up his helmet and the answers are varied. In fact, Lewis has never given up on "extra hobbies", so many are the passions that involve him. Music, fashion, activism and movies – in the past he had lent his voice in films such as “Cars”e “Zoolanders” – are just some of the hypothetical scenarios in which we could see it.
The latest challenge for Lewis will be to reach another goal, different from the checkered flag but equally important – namely the production of a film, in which his first cameo as an actor could even arrive. He himself had said he wanted to make and act in a film about his life.
F1 returns to the big screen
The film – as yet untitled – acquired by Apple's Original Films department, will star Brad Pitt – who also participated in the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2016 as well as several Grands Prix always as a spectator – and will bear the director's signature of Top Gun: Maverick ,Joseph Kosinsky. It will be curious to see how the director fares with the F1 duels on the track, considering that, with the planes in Top Gunreally put on a show.
Tour instead – as emerges from the announcement of the project by Apple - “He will star as a driver who comes out of retirement to compete alongside a rookie driver against the titans of the sport".
Formula 1 is therefore preparing to return to the big screen. In fact, this will be the first major themed film from the acclaimed film Rush from 2013, although while the latter dramatized the real-life 1976 title battle between James Hunt and Niki Lauda, it's unclear whether the Hamilton-produced film will be based on a true story and real-life pilots. or pure fantasy.
