From the tests it was already understood that Ferrari was behind Red Bull and today's free practice confirmed it. In the afternoon session, in which the circuit was in the same conditions as in qualifying, Leclerc it closed in fourth position, while the companion Sainz he just finished fourteenth.
The Monegasque was almost half a second slower than leader Alonso and 3 tenths behind Verstappen. According to him, Aston Martin won't be in the fight tomorrow, but even the red one doesn't seem fast enough.
Leclerc's words

"I don't think we have the performance for pole and I think Aston Martin was faster today than it will be tomorrow"he told F1TV, adding that there is a lot of work to do to fix the race pace. From today, however, the Monegasque also draws positive aspects.
"I felt better than the tests. Last week was very hit and miss as we tried so many things, so I haven't had much time to adjust the car to my driving style and I did today".
“On the other hand, today we also had confirmation of what we had already noticed: lat Red Bull it looks slightly ahead of everyone else. Also Aston Martin looks fit, so we just have to wait and see”.
“For now we have to focus on ourselves, look for some performance during the night and hope to do well in qualifying tomorrow – adds Leclerc, who obtained pole position and victory on this track last year – let's hope that Red Bull and Aston Martin are only as quick at this circuit [laughs, ed]".
