It will be a special weekend in Monza. Charles Leclerc , Ferrari they return to the Brianza circuit with few expectations for a world championship now in their pocket a Max Verstappen, but with a great desire for redemption. Bringing home a success would not make up for the shortcomings of 2022, especially from a World Championship perspective, but it would certainly be good for Ferrari's mood.
The last one to win at Monza for the Cavallino team was the Monegasque in 2019. He used that same image, in a beautiful editing, for charge the fans just a few days after his return to Monza, in which he will drive the F1-75 with the celebratory livery for the 75th anniversary of the Cavallino with yellow overalls and helmet. Even his teammate, Sainz, will have this special endowment but unlike Charles will be forced to one comeback from the bottom due to the use of a brand new Power Unit. There will be other riders with him and this will complicate the plans, forcing everyone into tight qualifying, a bit like what happened at Spa.
A busy weekend
Since the one-two in Bahrain, much water has passed under the bridges at Ferrari. From Barcelona onwards the team began to waver, first with problems with reliability, then with the serious ones shortcomings in terms of strategy. There were also mistakes by the pilots, who however deserve applause. Winning at Monza is now the last big goal of the season, but it won't be a walk in the park.
“This will be a different experience – said Leclerc in the press conference reserved for the pilots – for once I'm dressed in yellow for Ferrari's 75th birthday. It's all very nice for a weekend in Monza that will be challenging and crazy. Yesterday there was an event in Milan where we met so many people who support us, and it was really great because they make you feel at home. We hope to compensate them with a positive performance. But we know that it will be a difficult appointment on paper - added – we expect a very strong Red Bull, moreover on a track that doesn't suit our car perfectly. However, during this championship, there have been many surprises, so I hope there can be a positive one."
The temple of speed enhances the strengths of the RB18, and to avoid a Spa 2.0 Ferrari must necessarily find a foothold. One solution will be to go back to the old F1-75 base to exploit the full potential of the tyres. The Power Unit, on the other hand, should express its full potential.
Red tide should not be disappointed
Ferrari is also "indebted" to its fans, who flocked to Monza to support the Maranello team, with extreme passion. Something that is always reflected in the words and eyes of Leclerc who has kept Monza in a special place in his heart since 2019. "For me it is a pleasure to drive Ferrari at Monza - has explained - you feel the expectations, and every time you participate in the events everyone supports you and feels their expectations, but I take it more as a game than a pressure. From the hotel, for example, there are so many people that it's difficult to reach the track, but everything is very beautiful”.
