During qualifications of Spanish Grand Prix Charles Leclerc suffered problems on his SF-23 “Evo”. The Monegasque was particularly struggling in the left turns. A behavior that surprised everyone a bit, both because FP3 went relatively well and because his partner, Carlos Sainz, also with the updated version of the single-seater, was able to grab the front row, placing himself alongside Max Verstappen. Once the session was over, the team preferred to have everything analyzed in Maranello for more in-depth checks, choosing to replace the entire rear end in view of the race. After almost two weeks and a few days before the Canadian Grand Prix, the first findings on the parts analyzed have arrived.
Failures are excluded
“We will investigate why there must be a problem" an extremely disappointed Charles Leclerc said in Spain after qualifying. Ferrari, after a quick internal reorganization not yet completed, has started working on the car, and its limits. The Maranello team brought the first updates to Spain to try to make sense of the single-seater's many problems. Ferrari has transformed the SF-23 into an experimental car, useful as a test bed not so much for this season but for next. A choice that Mercedes also made, which after the debut of the updates in Monaco, came closer to Barcelona, obtaining a double podium which would also have been within Ferrari's reach, if it hadn't been inconstant.
In fact, the main problem of the Red seems to be this: having an indecipherable single-seater in its hands, inconsistent even between one session and another. The proof also comes from the checks on SF-23 number 16. Stop, in fact, according to reports Formula1a.one, that no particular malfunctions or faults were found on Charles Leclerc's car. It would therefore have been an issue linked to the set-up that influenced the qualification of the Monegasque who was unable to reach the top 10 in the race, also due to an inconsistent pace with the same compound.
It will therefore be important to find confirmation on the track, in Canada, a track which due to its configuration could favor the SF-23, highlighting the progress given by the developments.
