After 14 Grands Prix contested this year, theAlpha Tauri he has already had good four pilots. Something that hadn't happened for six years, when in 2017 the same Faenza team (then called Toro Rosso) fielded Daniil Kvyat and Carlos Sainz in the first part of the season and then switched to the Pierre Gasly-Brendon Hartley duo.
In 2023, however, Yuki tsunoda he was the only driver always present. Nyck took turns at his side first de Vries (rounds 1-10), fired in July and replaced by Daniel Ricciardo (rounds 11-12). The Australian, however, then got injured and it was therefore Liam's turn Lawson take its place at Zandvoort and Monza.
The New Zealander born in 2002 will also compete in the GP of Singapore scheduled for next weekend and, most likely, also that of Japan the following weekend. Lawson began 2023 with the intention of racing exclusively in Super Formula Japanese, but his unexpected commitment to Formula 1 isn't ruining his fight for the title.

Lawson between Formula 1 and Super Formula
Second just 8 points behind leader Ritomo Miyata, Lawson will be able to play for the championship all the way, given that the next (and last) episode of the series will begin on October 28th in Suzuka, date by which Ricciardo should be largely recovered from his injury (it is thought he may return to the track for the Qatar GP, scheduled for 6 to 8 October).
Despite the unscheduled debut and an uncompetitive car, Lawson did not disappoint expectations. In Monza, in his first full weekend in Formula 1, he arrived eleventh close to the points zone. Comparing his best result with that of the other AlphaTauri drivers (tenth place for Tsunoda, 12th for de Vries and 13th for Ricciardo), we notice how the New Zealander made anything but a bad impression.

Full-time seat for 2024? That's what Lawson needs to do
If he could win the championship in Super Formula, Lawson could find himself a full-time seat for next season in the top flight. This is what Helmut thinks too Marko, interviewed by Servus TV. “Liam has been with us for a while ed he is a very strong driver, he is intelligent in his battles on the track and is a bit like Bruce McLaren. We absolutely need to continue to observe this for the future."
“With the Super Formula races so far away it's not very clear what will happen, but he can still win the title. Maybe this means that will get a permanent place in F1 instead of the reserve pilot role, and that can happen quickly. He has proven that he is good enough to compete in Formula 1, but now he must confirm this progression in the next races".
