Today is the day. After several weeks of negotiations, between email exchanges and face-to-face meetings, the FIA and the two teams involved in the case of budget cap, Red Bull and Aston Martin have finally reached an agreement.
All resolved… maybe
The news has been buzzing in the Mexican paddock since yesterday evening: according to what was collected by Autosport.com, the team of Milton Keynes managed to find the agreement that definitively puts an end to the budget cap chapter. According to the rumors there is talk of a Accepted Breach Agreement(i.e. a plea bargain) which will bring Red Bull to pay a fine, which appears to be very heavy, and to suffer a limitation in carrying out aerodynamic tests during the 2023 season.
From what filters then, to Red Bull fewer hours of wind tunnel development will be allowed. Not really great news, considering that the Austrian team already has, and will have, fewer hours available than the other teams (having won the title this year). But these remain only rumours. It will therefore be interesting to see if Christian Horner will confirm them: it was in fact announced that the Red Bull team principal will speak today at a press conference at 18.30 to explain the details of this agreement.
The FIA also punishes Aston Martin
In addition to Red Bull, there will be fines also for Aston Martin. However, Stroll's team, unlike the Milton Keynes team, did not comply with some procedural rules, without therefore exceeding the maximum spending limit. However, the first case is not mentioned Formula One: in fact, this situation also affected Williams last year, which was punished with a fine by the Federation. The idea is that the same line of judgment will also be followed with Aston Martin.
The announcement is awaited
It will therefore be a day not to be missed. After Horner's lecture, one also expects indeed the statement of the FIA which should announce in detail the areas where the two teams have committed the irregularities. The final word on the budget cap theme is about to arrive, but the final touches are still missing and will arrive soon… very soon.
