The season of Formula One will end a little earlier than last year. The reason is very simple: avoid coinciding with the football World Cup which will take place in Qatar. Although something could change…
The unexpected news
The Formula One plan has always been very clear: the Abu Dhabi GP will take place on November 20th at 14.00 pm. As the season comes to a close, attention would shift to the World Cup, which begins on November 21. So far everything is perfect, if it weren't for the decision communicated in recent days by FIFA is brought forward the start of the World Cup by a day:
“The Bureau of the FIFA Council confirms that the 2022 Qatar World Cup opening ceremony and the Qatar-Ecuador match are moved one day, as a separate event, to 20 November at 19:00 pm (local time) ”.
Abu Dhabi GP, expected to be brought forward?
According to the press releases, therefore, the last Grand Prix of the year will take place at 14.00 pm Italian time, as the kick-off of the inaugural match of the World Cup will take place at 17pm. The problem is linked to the final stages of the race, in which the risk that moments such as the podium and the celebrations for the official awarding of the titles, overlap with the opening ceremony of the football event.
And now, what to do?
For these reasons, Formula One thinks and studies new opportunities to avoid this circumstance. The possibility of bringing it forward by a few hours is not excluded the Grand Prix. Initially it was thought of carry out the GP on Saturday, but the hypothesis (given the back to back of the teams) was immediately discarded.
