A bit of a forgettable start. Mercedes did not start the weekend in Australia well. In fact, during the second free practice session, Russell set the eleventh fastest time, ahead of Hamilton thirteenth. So many difficulties for Sir Hamilton that, at the end of the session, he tried to explain to the microphones of Sky Sports F1:
“I'll talk to the engineers about the tyres, but then I don't know about the rest. I have not thought about that yet. I feel fine, normal. But it was a difficult session. Every change we bring makes no difference to us. This is the hard part. You are optimistic, you make changes, but then you don't get results. We don't get better. We made some changes before FP2, but in the end FP1 was better. Our plan for Saturday? It won't be too complicated to go back with the setup, but we can't do much. This is the situation and we need to fix it. Even when you do a good lap, then you find yourself 1.2 seconds behind."
