It started right away with a big twist the US Grand Prix: Carlos Sainz was in fact forced to retire! He immediately stops his race following contact with George Russell.
Russell touches Sainz!
A truly unfortunate event involving the Spanish rider. When the traffic lights go out, Verstappen immediately took the lead of the race, finishing ahead of Sainz into turn one. And that's exactly when Russell, with a block, misses the braking point. Sainz turns around and is forced to return to the pits due to a puncture.
Sainz forced to retire
Initially it was thought that the American Grand Prix of number 55 on the grid was compromised but the intention is in the pits Ferrari that that of the pilot, was clearly trying to continue. But instead… no. According to what was collected, contact with Russell's W13 resulted in pressure problems, linked to radiator problems which led to an increase in temperatures.
Russell penalized
Nothing to do therefore for Carlos Sainz, really very unlucky. This is his second consecutive withdrawal for the Spaniard, after the one that took place two weeks ago at Suzuka. The incident was also immediately noticed by the Federation who punished the Mercedes driver with a 5 second penalty. A good message arrives, in terms of timing, from the Federation, even if the sanction could have been higher. Ferrari now relies on Charles Leclerc who is proceeding towards a comeback after starting in twelfth position.
