He risks not being great anymore Saturday for Max Verstappen. The pilot Dutch in fact, he takes pole position at Suzuka and tomorrow he will start in front of Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz. However, the last word has not been said: Verstappen in fact risks a lot in view of tomorrow's race with a penalty that could come very soon.
Verstappen-Norris, what happened
But let's go in order. During the qualifying session, especially in Q3, a few minutes from the end, Max Verstappen was on the launch lap and was warming up the tyres. In doing so, he failed to notice the arrival behind him of Lando Norris who was intent on passing him. The danger that arose was enormous: the McLaren driver, who arrived quickly, had to go onto the grass to avoid the impact with Verstappen, then returning to the track in front of the Dutchman. Max evidently hadn't noticed Norris' arrival, but the risk was very high.
Still waiting for the Federation
For this, the FIA announced that the incident will be investigated at the end of the session. Verstappen took pole home, but we are still awaiting an announcement from the Federation(which will come unlike the budget cap case) which could also change the result sanctioned by the track. The pilots have been summoned for 10.00 Italian time. We just have to wait and see if the starting grid of the race scheduled for 07.00 will change or not.
