In the sixth round of the world championship, in Spain, anything goes! Max Verstappen wins ahead of Perez and Russell. Problems for Leclerc, forced to retire in the middle of the race
In a crazy race full of twists and turns, Max Verstappen proved to be a phenomenon. The Dutchman also wins the Spanish Grand Prix, ahead of Perez and Russell, and becomes the new world leader.
Red Bull double
In Spain it's a double Red Bull. Verstappen finishes in first place, ahead of Sergio Perez. The race of both the Milton Keynes team riders was excellent. However, difficulties were not lacking: Verstappen had problems with the DRS since before the traffic lights went out. Indeed, in several laps, the wing on Verstappen's RB18 did not open and prevented the world champion from looking for an attack on Russell. However, thanks to the strategy, in which Verstappen played the undercurt, and the great hand of his teammate Perez, the number 1 managed to bring home the victory. So we have a new world leader. We can say with certainty: in Spain, despite the difficulties, the whole Red Bull team triumphed.
A Red to watch
A Grand Prix full of twists and turns. In fact, Charles is missing in the ranking Leclerc. The pilot of red, the undisputed leader in the race, was however forced to retire due to reliability problems. According to the latest reports, there is talk of a problem with the Power Unit that has not yet been identified. A cold shower for the Monegasque who was in complete control of the situation. So it hurts, of course, but the world championship is still long. Points lost for the riders, while the landlord for the constructors Sainz take home a few points. The Spaniard finishes in fourth place in the standings. It wasn't an easy race at all for the 55th on the grid either, following the long one in turn 4 which made him climb to eleventh place. Having changed the strategy, Sainz still did his best to return to an excellent area for points. For Ferrari it was certainly not a race to remember. We need to work and redemption can already arrive from next week with the appointment in Monaco.
Return confirmed
Yes, they're back. The biggest surprise, and confirmation, of the Spanish weekend was Mercedes. The German team concludes the Grand Prix with Russell's podium and Hamilton's fifth time. The two riders experienced two completely different races. Russell had a super solid Grand Prix, with an excellent defense (as long as he could) on Verstappen. However, the English rider proves to be a super tough nut to crack and the third position is more than deserved. For Hamilton, on the other hand, it was really an uphill race. On the first lap, the seven-times world champion had contact with Magnussen, which led him to restart from the last positions. The strategy though and the race was truly incredible with the 44 finishing fifth in the standings. We still don't have a certainty of the return of the Mercedes, but undoubtedly Barcelona could be the weekend of the restart.
Alpine and Bottas continue to amaze
Wonderful, but now as always, Bottas' race. The Finnish driver takes the Alfa Romeo brand to the top with sixth position, while his teammate Zhou was forced to retire due to a problem on his C42 halfway through the race. The race also satisfied the Alpine riders. After a qualifying to be reviewed, both Ocon and Alonso finish in the top ten for both. The Frenchman confirms himself as mister constancy, with the seventh position brought home, while Alonso (started last) is placed in the ninth box.
Still too many problems
Outside the points instead Sebastian Vettel, eleventh, and Lance Stroll fifteenth. There is still a lot to work for Aston Martin. The Verdona weekend, with the new car B, did not convince at all. Just as Daniel Ricciardo still disappoints a lot. The Australian, started from the points zone, finished in twelfth position. For him it is absolutely not a moment, considering that Norris (in non-optimal health conditions) finished in eighth place.
Thus ends an incredible and exciting Spanish Grand Prix. The winner is Red Bull with Verstappen. New leader of the world championship therefore, but always the same challenge: Verstappen against Leclerc are meeting now in Monaco. At the home of the Monegasque, in seven days, where it will still be a show.
