Yesterday the official announcement arrived: the GP will not be disputed this year either of China. All this because of zero covid policy adopted by the Chinese government. Such decision in fact it also led to actual riots by citizens.
First rumors about the possible replacement
So we go to the fourth consecutive year without the weekend in Shanghai, the grand prix that should have been held at April. It remains so one empty than many other circuits they want to fill. As for some years now the "official reserve" in these situations is the Portimao track. As confirmed by the latest rumors from the paddock F1, in pole position to replace the Chinese GP is the Portuguese one, much loved by the fans. The peculiarity of the track concerns its depressions that make the completion of a complete lap a very tough challenge. Even if it's just rumors, many are talking about how Stefano domenicali himself made phone calls to speak to the owner of the Algarve Circuit as a replacement for the Chinese GP.
One option has been discarded
Another possibility, however already rejected by Liberty Media, could have been the shift of Baku weekend a week earlier. This assumption was accompanied by a dry one No of the Azerbaijani leadership. This would have made life easier for all the teams too as, a week later, it will be racing at Miami, and it will not be very easy to make this move.
To understand which circuit will be chosen, however, we will not have to wait long: in fact, the World Motorsport Council will meet on 9th December to discuss everything that could help the world of motorsport grow even more, but above all to make a decision on this situation. Obviously, the most nostalgic would like a return to historic circuits like the various ones Hockenheim, Magny Cours, the Buddha International Circuit in India and many others, but we know well how, for some years now, F1 has been increasingly moving towards the path of money and not that of its fans.
