Friday of free practice sees success Red Bull, or better than Max Verstappen. The Dutchman, after the best time in the FP1, concludes in front of everyone also in the second session. The two follow Ferrari di Leclerc e Sainz.
Study Friday
For Ferrari, and in particular for Leclerc, it will be a day of great study. Currently, according to the release FIA, the Red has not mounted yet a new turbo on the F1-75 of the Monegasque. Therefore, if everything were confirmed, Leclerc would not receive the penalty of ten positions to be discounted on the starting grid. But there is still no certainty: in the Prancing Horse garage they have in fact analyzed all the data and, following the briefing, they will decide which path to take to try not to take their number sixteen too far from the fight for the title. Also because seeing this Verstappen… you can't go wrong.
FP2 not easy for Mercedes
However, the difficulties continue for the Mercedes. Regardless of the porpoising phenomenon, the W13 still falls short. Russell stands out as always, but does not exceed the seventh position, while Hamilton, obviously present on the track, does not go beyond the thirteenth box. The litmus test has arrived for Mercedes and, despite the small updates also brought to the single-seater today, the radio team: “This car is undriveable” by Hamilton, does not seem to bode well.
How the "old" ones fly
Instead, the veterans fly. As in Baku, Sebastian Hag and Fernando Alonso they stand out on Friday's free practice. The German concludes FP2 in fourth position, after the ninth fastest time in the morning, while Alonso, for the moment, together with Verstappen he proved to be the best on the track. In fact, the Spaniard set the fifth fastest time, behind Vettel, but the best race pace seems to be his. However, let us remember that it is only Friday, and it is not certain that these hierarchies will respect each other tomorrow.
Keyword continuity
Signs of recovery are also coming from the McLaren. Norris concludes in eighth place, in front of Daniel Ricciardo ninth. For the Woking team, still firmly fourth in the standings, it's time for continuity. A sign of recovery has also arrived in Baku from Ricciardo, who wants to keep pushing to consolidate his seat for next year.
FP2 to forget
However, the difficulties at home continue Haas. Magnussen e Schumacher they stop respectively in the fourteenth and fifteenth slots, in any case ahead of their "engine rivals" of Alfa Romeo, sixteenth with Zhou and last with Bottas. It must be said, however, that the Finnish, for a problem on his C42, did not take to the track in the second session.
Thus ended Friday's free practice in Canada. But the fun certainly doesn't end there! Appointment in fact see you tomorrow, with the third free practice session scheduled at 19.00 and qualifying at 22.00.
